Chelsea face the increasing prospect of losing Enzo Fernandez to Real Madrid, with the Argentine midfielder having agreed personal terms with the Bernabeu side.

Enzo is said to be ‘one step’ away from joining Los Blancos, according to a report from Marca, in which journalist Miguel Serrano is quoted as saying the Chelsea captain has already given his green light for a move.

The 25-year-old former Benfica star has been agitating to leave Stamford Bridge for Real Madrid for weeks and should Florentino Perez win next weekend’s presidential election as expected, a major offensive will be launched in order to finish the deal.

Enzo Fernandez to Real Madrid: Personal terms are agreed

“Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Enzo Fernandez. The part of the deal that Real Madrid have not done is an agreement with Chelsea, but there’s a deal with Enzo Fernandez, his agent Javier Pastore, and Real Madrid for him to become a Real Madrid player after the World Cup,” Serrano states.

“That agreement doesn't mean he's definitely going to play for Real Madrid; it depends on whether the negotiations between Real Madrid and Chelsea are successful. We'll have to see how much money Real Madrid is willing to offer and how low Chelsea is willing to go.

“Everyone assumes that the president can leak the signing of Enzo Fernandez because it's a deal that depends solely on money. When Florentino says that people know the best players want to play for Real Madrid, they tell me he's referring to Enzo Fernandez and someone else too.”

Chelsea demand huge transfer fee

Chelsea reportedly want at least €120 million to sell Enzo, which almost exactly matches the fee they paid Benfica for the player in January 2023, but are ideally targeting a €140m deal.

Real Madrid are unlikely to be tempted at such a price. Enzo’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) is €91.3m while Los Blancos are set to invest in multiple areas of their squad this summer, with a deal for Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries having been announced by Fabrizio Romano on Tuesday.

The Bernabeu side, however, will hope that the 25-year-old can play a role in prising himself away from Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Fernandez’s Chelsea exit saga

Enzo Fernandez has already dropped some not-so-subtle hints that he wants to join Real Madrid this summer.

Agent Javier Pastore admitted at the start of May that Fernandez visits Madrid ‘when he can’, while the player himself previously confessed that he would like to live in the Spanish capital because it reminds him of Buenos Aires.

This prompted Chelsea to ban Enzo for one match, which led to his agent hitting out at the ‘unfairness’ of the decision and announcing that the player would ‘explore his options’.

The Blues ultimately responded by offering Enzo a new contract, but it was confirmed last week that the World Cup winner wants to leave Chelsea and that his representative had made contact with Real Madrid over a prospective move.

Manchester City also want to sign Fernandez, who is under contract in West London until 2032.
