Rashford set for Man Utd return as Barcelona reject buy option

Barcelona have taken a definitive stance over the future of Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford, who had spent last season on loan at Camp Nou and was available for them to buy for just €30 million.

“My understanding is that Barcelona have officially decided not to activate the buy option clause included in the agreement made with Manchester United for Marcus Rashford,” Romano explained on his YouTube channel.

“In five days, the €30 million buy option will expire and, according to my information, it will not be triggered.

“So the reality as of today is that Marcus Rashford will leave Barcelona and return to Manchester United.

“But Barcelona are not considering this story over. After investing in Anthony Gordon, Barcelona would still be open to keeping Rashford for one more season, but on loan rather than on a permanent transfer.

“For months Manchester United have maintained the same position. They want €30m or the player returns and they will assess the market.

“Now we have to see whether United explore other options or whether Barcelona remain the favourite destination. Rashford will also have an important say in the decision.”

Casemiro and Jadon Sancho leave Manchester United

Romano also discussed the situation of Jadon Sancho and Casemiro, who were officially released from Man Utd on Wednesday.

“Three players are leaving Manchester United,” he confirmed. “Tyrell Malacia was already out of the project. Casemiro is expected to join Inter Miami. We are waiting for the final details and then a ‘Here We Go’ could arrive soon for the Brazilian midfielder. The third player is Jadon Sancho.”

Romano particularly discussed the situation of Sancho, who had a bitterly disappointing career at Old Trafford after arriving amid much fanfare.

“Manchester United invested £75m in Jadon Sancho back in 2021. Now, after five years, he is leaving on a free transfer. United had the option to extend his contract by one more season, but the club decided not to activate it,” he said.

“Maybe they could have tried to make some money from the player, but extending the contract would also have meant paying a very high salary for another year.

“The decision was to avoid that risk and part ways.”

Jose Mourinho begins planning Real Madrid rebuild

Another club set for a major rebuild is Real Madrid, where Jose Mourinho is planning big changes in a short period of time.

“We have seen so many things happening in Madrid over the last seven to ten days,” he said. “Enrique Riquelme announcing Erling Haaland, Real Madrid trying for Michael Olise, Bayern saying no, the Julian Alvarez bid, Mourinho, Konate, Dumfries. It has been a crazy period around Real Madrid,” Romano said.

“Jose Mourinho’s official presentation is planned for July, not today or tomorrow. But when Mourinho arrived in Madrid yesterday, he immediately had a long meeting with the most important people at the club.

“From Juni Calafat to Jose Angel Sanchez, the discussions were about players, roles and transfer strategies. The planning process has already started.”

Julian Alvarez to Real Madrid latest

One of the ‘crazy’ situations that Romano mentioned was Real Madrid’s public offer of €150 million for Julian Alvarez being rejected for Atletico Madrid. He went on to discuss what will happen with the Argentine now.

Romano explained: “Real Madrid offered €150m for Julian Alvarez. But after Atletico Madrid publicly rejected the proposal with very strong statements, Real Madrid are not returning with a new bid as of today.

“It’s not a situation where Real Madrid offered €150m, Atletico said no and then another proposal immediately arrived.

“That process is not happening.”

“Real Madrid have taken note of Atletico’s response.

“We will see what happens in the coming days, weeks and months, but right now there is no new proposal communicated either to Atletico Madrid or to the player’s camp.”

Defender remains Mourinho’s next priority

Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries are both primed to sign for Real Madrid, but Romano says that the club is still targeting another defender.

“One of Mourinho’s priorities is to add another defender,” he said. “It could be someone who can play both centre-back and left-back, but it could also simply be a pure centre-back.

“Real Madrid are comfortable with Fran Garcia, Alvaro Carreras and Ferland Mendy on the left side, so the main objective is another defender.”

Romano poured cold water on speculation linking Riccardo Calafiori with a move to the Bernabeu.

“Real Madrid spoke to the agency of Riccardo Calafiori a few weeks ago,” he said. “But they have not reached out to Arsenal. There have been no club-to-club contacts.

“At the moment my feeling is that Calafiori is not a concrete option.

“It’s something they discussed internally, but Real Madrid are not advancing on that deal.”

Josko Gvardiol faces Real Madrid or Manchester City decision

Real Madrid are likelier to move for Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol.

“For Josko Gvardiol there are currently two realistic options,” Romano said.

“One is Real Madrid. They love the player. He can play centre-back, left-back, he is still young, he has international experience and he would be ideal for them.

“Manchester City do not want to make this easy. They have already offered Gvardiol a new contract and very important money to stay. City really want to keep him.

“Now the decision is in the hands of the player. He can either move to Real Madrid or sign a new contract at Manchester City.

“And if Real Madrid want to make it happen, they will still need to negotiate with City.”
