Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan has shocked many and there are plenty who haven’t taken it well – one of them may be his Manchester United and international team-mate Bruno Fernandes.

Ronaldo spoke to Morgan about Erik ten Hag, the Glazer family, how he felt disrespected and betrayed, amongst other things, and fans haven’t taken it well.

The response from the club is that they are awaiting the full interview to establish facts and see where it goes before making a response and how to handle the situation.

However, some players have seemingly taken matters into their own hands, as evident by Fernandes’ response when he met Ronaldo at Portugal’s pre-World Cup training camp.

Ronaldo and Fernandes' frosty relationship

The Portugal squad met up yesterday and there was a frosty meeting between Manchester United team-mates Fernandes and Ronaldo.

Ronaldo was already in the changing room and seemingly getting ready for training when Fernandes arrived and he greeted the staff before meeting the rest of the squad.

Ronaldo had an awkward hand shake with Fernandes, seemingly taken aback by the reaction he received as Fernandes looked away while greeting him.

Fernandes then met the rest of his team-mates, joyfully greeting Rafael Leao and then hugging Joao Felix with a clear smile on his face, perhaps showing his thoughts on Ronaldo’s interview.

Fernandes has been regarded as one of the senior members of the Manchester United side and has taken up the captaincy as Harry Maguire continues to remain away from the first team.

How this affects Portugal’s camp remains to be seen – Ronaldo is still captain and the senior-most figure in the dressing room and for him to behave this way could have a detrimental effect on the side.

For questions to rage on about his future will is not a good sign, and if he has a poor relationship with Fernandes and some others, it does Fernando Santos no favours in this World Cup run.
