Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has undoubtedly been one of the signings of the season in the Premier League.

While his €71 million fee from Real Madrid raised eyebrows given that he had already turned 30 by the time the Red Devils shelled out that figure, he has more than justified Man Utd's faith in him.

This is underlined on an almost weekly basis at present, with Casemiro in some of the finest form that he has shown throughout his career.

A leader on the field and off it, he has already established himself as a key player in Erik ten Hag's side, helping them to Carabao Cup success with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle. The expectation is that he will lead them to more glory further down the line.

However, his time in England has not been without controversy. He has already picked up two straight red cards in the Premier League, having never received such a sanction during his time in Spain. It means that he will have missed at least seven league fixtures this season because of suspension.

The influence of the Real Madrid legend in the Premier League this season is made clear by statistics.

How important is Casemiro to Man Utd?

Manchester United have played 44 matches so far this season, of which Casemiro, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €60.1m, has featured in all but seven.

With the 31-year-old in their midfield, Man Utd have won a staggering 75.7% of matches but without him that drops to 42.9%. Indeed, they have nearly lost as many matches with him not present (3) as they have when he has played.

Going forwards, Casemiro is not actually making a profound difference to the side, but that is to be expected given that he typically operates deep in midfield. Ten Hag's side have scored an average of two goals per game when he has been in the squad but just 1.7 when he has been missing.

It is defensively that his impact has really told. United concede 0.8 goals per game with Casemiro in their ranks by 1.7 when he is not there. Clearly, he is Manchester United's key figure.
