Chelsea may have spent over €1 billion in the transfer market over the course of the last year, but even with such spending, the Blues cannot legislate for the type of injury crisis that they currently find themselves in.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side was without more than €400 million as Chelsea were held to a scoreless draw against Bournemouth on Sunday.

The Blues fashioned a string of promising chances inside the box, but in an all-too-familiar tale, their finishing was wasteful.

It might have been a different story, though, had Chelsea had anything like their full team to call upon.

Instead, Pochettino was forced to stew as he missed a raft of potentially game-changing players because of injury problems.

The former Tottenham and PSG boss had a whole starting XI of players missing – and the type of stars who were absent would challenge for the top four in the Premier League, as the graphic shows.

Chelsea are missing leading players all over the field because of physical problems, spearheaded by striker Armando Broja in attack, with the academy product a long-term absentee due to knee ligament damage.

In the attacking midfield area, meanwhile, summer signing Christopher Nkunku is the star name.

Further back in midfield, Moises Caicedo, Chelsea’s most expensive signing ever, is absent with fellow summer arrival Romeo Lavia.

The Chelsea rearguard, meanwhile, is without Marc Cucurella, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and star man Reece James. Trevoh Chalobah is also missing in this area.

Goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli is one of the few players who is not a genuine star who makes this Chelsea injury XI.

Chelsea injury update: When will Blues stars return?

It is hoped that Caicedo, Noni Madueke and potentially even Broja will be back for the Premier League meeting with Aston Villa next Sunday.

Meanwhile, the latest updates on Lavia, Badiashile, Carney Chukwuemeka and Chalobah suggest it will be next month before they play again.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are without Nkunku until December, while Wesley Fofana is not expected back until next season after serious knee ligament damage.
