Chelsea outcast Edouard Mendy could move to Premier League rivals
Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has been an outcast with the club’s first-team as of late as his poor form led to him being dropped before the World Cup break.
Manager Graham Potter had him in the side when he replaced Thomas Tuchel in September but his poor form combined with Kepa Arrizabalaga’s good run has led to him being relegated to the bench.
There have been doubts over Mendy’s long-term future as of late and a move could be on the cards for him, especially given Chelsea are looking for new goalkeepers themselves.
Now, it’s emerged that Mendy could be on the move as early as January and he could be moving to a club close to Chelsea: their London rivals Tottenham.
Mendy may move to Tottenham
Mendy was Chelsea’s undisputed first choice until the start of this season and was an important part of their Champions League winning run in 2021.
However, a series of errors at the start of this season combined with his poor form has led to him being dropped from the first team.
Tottenham have been looking for a new goalkeeper to sign having seen Hugo Lloris struggle for form as he gets older and he may have to be replaced.
Lloris hasn’t been up to the mark lately as well and there has been talk that Antonio Conte is looking to replace him in the future and Mendy is seen as the ideal fit.

The Senegalese’s attributes, including his distribution and shot-stopping is admired by Conte and he wants to bring that over to North London, where Conte is building a team of his own.
Whether a deal for Mendy happens remains to be seen but it will be difficult to do, especially considering both clubs will be competing for Champions League places this season and Chelsea wouldn’t want to strengthen a direct rival.
