Joao Felix: Atletico Madrid set their price for Man Utd target

Joao Felix has been in the shop window at the 2022 World Cup, with the Atletico Madrid star having already attracted interest from Manchester United ahead of the January transfer window.

Felix has been in impressive form with Portugal in Qatar, notably turning in a strong performance in a 6-1 last-16 victory over Switzerland – a match in which the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo and a hat-trick from Goncalo Ramos rather overshadowed his individual performance.

Certainly, being on international duty has been a welcome change for the 23-year-old, whose relationship with Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has soured in recent months, causing his domestic form to crumble.

Indeed, the young attacker has often found himself on the periphery of things in the Spanish capital and a transfer is a possibility in January.

Manchester United, PSG and Bayern Munich have been most closely associated with Felix, but they are not the only clubs thought to hold an interest in the player. In addition to this big three, Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with the player via Relevo.

What is Joao Felix’s asking price?

According to the same source, Atletico Madrid are open to selling Felix for €140 million, which would recoup their initial outlay of €126m on the player in 2019.

It is unlikely that any of these clubs will stump up such a fee. Felix has failed to deliver on his promise at Atleti while the player’s poor relationship with Simeone means that buying clubs will be aware they have leverage in the deal.

On the flip side, the player still has four years left to run on his contract in Spain.

Nevertheless, the World Cup has shown Joao Felix’s true potential and it may be that Man Utd or another club takes a gamble on him – just not for the price Atletico Madrid want.
