Man Utd star's 'best football ever' still not good enough says club legend

Scott McTominay is "playing his best football ever" but he still shouldn't be anywhere near Manchester United's first XI, according to club legend Paul Parker.

McTominay has been in a rich vein of form for club and country of late, scoring four times in two games for Scotland - including a brace against Spain - and seizing his chance at Old Trafford with Casemiro joining Christian Eriksen on the sidelines with injury.

McTominay has started all three of United's games since the most recent international break, and scored the opener as the Red Devils beat Everton 2-0 last Saturday.

But Parker, who was Man Utd's right-back before the emergence of Gary Neville and won the Premier League with them in 1994 and 1995, thinks doesn't think McTominay is good enough for United - or any other 'top' side.

"Scott McTominay has done well for his country but no one can really advocate for him getting a regular spot in this Man United team when Casemiro, [Christian] Eriksen, Fred and [Bruno] Fernandes are there," he told Danish betting site SpilXperten.

"Man United are definitely a better team without Scott McTominay in the starting XI. If they want to improve their midfield it needs to be with a player from outside the club. McTominay is not going to improve the team."

United have reportedly entered the race to sign England midfielder Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, while Marcel Sabitzer's loan from Bayern Munich could get made permanent after an impressive spell at Old Trafford.

McTominay has been linked with a summer transfer to Newcastle, meanwhile, but Parker doesn't think any team with ambitions of qualifying for the Champions League should be looking at the Lancashire-born Scot.

"We must say that McTominay's probably playing his best football ever right now," he continued. "The last couple of weeks he's probably had the best spell in his career but I'm still going to say that he can't play for a top side."
