Barcelona 'celebrating' Depay's World Cup performances amid transfer hope

Barcelona are eager to get rid of forward Memphis Depay and have been enjoying his World Cup displays over the last few weeks, hoping it lands them a

sale.

Depay opened his account for this World Cup over the weekend as he scored the opener in Netherlands’ 3-1 win over the United States in their last 16 clash.

The forward was also heavily involved in the team’s build-up and generally impressed in the team, which may invite offers for him in the near future.

This is something Barcelona have taken great pride in as they’re looking to get a sale done for him in the near future to help their financial issues.

Depay hasn’t played much over the course of the season as Barcelona have been looking to get him off their books in recent times and he isn’t favoured by manager Xavi.

Despite the club’s ongoing title run in La Liga, they are open to a sale and feel the World Cup performances may encourage an offer to come in.

They believe his return to prominence and a starring role in the Dutch attack could tempt clubs to approach Barcelona over a possible deal as early as the January transfer window.

Over the past few months, competition from others in the Barcelona squad such as Ousmane Dembele, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and more have limited his game time.

Injuries haven’t helped his cause either and hasn’t played much since making a few appearances right at the start of the campaign.

A problem for Barcelona is the lack of suitors in for him, and an even bigger issue is how so few have shown concrete interest in wanting to buy the Dutchman.

Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal have been linked with a move in the past but are yet to make firm offers, but Barcelona are hoping that will change in January.
