Memphis Depay: Where does Barcelona forward go from here?

Barcelona will have plenty on the agenda for the final day of the transfer window, and one of the topics to consider is the future of forward Memphis Depay.
For most of the summer, Depay has been a topic of speculation, with plenty of uncertainty over his future in Xavi’s team in the upcoming season.
He has been linked to several clubs over the summer, and was even close to a move to Juventus at one point, but a move never materialized for the Dutchman.
Now, there are a few options for him and Barcelona to consider before a decision is made on where he’ll be playing his football for the rest of the 2022/23 season.

Depay has several options
Earlier on deadline day, there were reports that Chelsea were open to the idea of signing Depay, but that has now been ruled out as they are putting their efforts into signing another Barcelona forward: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
There’s a great chance that Depay ends up staying at Barcelona after deadline day, but there are options to consider what happens after it, according to Fabrizio Romano.

He could leave the club on a free transfer, but Depay’s contract will only be terminated if another club that is willing to sign him can be found – similar to what Barcelona are currently in the process of doing with Hector Bellerin.
After his move to Juventus broke down a few weeks ago, clubs such as Real Sociedad and Manchester United showed interest in signing Depay, but once again, no move has materialized.
Depay could well end up staying at Barcelona and could be a handy option, acting as a back-up to Robert Lewandowski, especially now that Aubameyang is set to move to Chelsea.
What happens in this Depay saga will be interesting to see, and could impact several clubs as they could get a talented forward on their books.
