Agent confirms Man Utd made bid for Serie A star

Sofyan Amrabat has been in high demand since his World Cup heroics with Morocco, and the midfielder's agent has confirmed that Manchester United tried to sign him from Fiorentina in January.

Amrabat was one of Morocco's star players as the Atlas Lions reached the semi-finals in Qatar, becoming the first African team ever to reach that stage of the competition.

The Fiorentina man has been in high demand since, with Barcelona the most closely linked with a move after the player was pictured, as a fan, attending their meeting with Getafe in January.

Barca are looking for a long-term replacement for Sergio Busquets, but they couldn't stump up the money for a player who is now rated at €20m by FootballTransfers in-house algorithm.

But they were far from the only interested party, with Manchester United also lodging a bid for the Netherlands-born 26-year-old.

Agent: 'an offer from Man Utd'

"Yes, we received more than one offer during the last winter transfer period, and on top of that was an offer from Manchester United, but the negotiations were not completed at the time," Amrabat's agent Mohammed Sinouh told Kora Plus.

"At the moment, we don't have any offers for the exit of Sofyan Amrabat, but Fiorentina welcomes the player's departure in the summer, especially after obtaining a promise from the club president to do so when he rejected the offers in the winter transfer period."

Fiorentina paid Verona a market value €19.5m for Amrabat's services in January 2020,but it is understood Fiorentina want at least €35 with Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur also credited was interest in the player.

Amrabat has completed seven progressive passes per 90 minutes on average over the last year in Serie A, making him one of the best in the league in that regards, and he would add to many a midfield should he leave the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
