Real Madrid point finger at Ancelotti with future uncertain

Carlo Ancelotti has been blamed for Real Madrid’s shortcomings in recent weeks which has left the club nine points behind leaders Barcelona at the top of La Liga.

Real were held to a goalless draw against Betis over the weekend three games without a win for the first time this season, an outcome which angered president Florentino Perez.

Spanish outlet Libertad Digital claim that Perez visited Ancelotti in the away dressing room after the game and made his feelings clear about a number of coaching decisions made by the Italian.

The report states that Perez ‘does not understand’ why Dani Ceballos and Marco Asensio have been dropped despite their recent good form while veterans Toni Kroos and Luka Modric play ‘longer than necessary’.

Ancelotti’s side have scored just two goals in their three game downturn and Perez has turned his fury to the manager, having already been disappointed with Real’s poor performance in the 3-1 Supercopa loss against Barcelona in January.

With Real seemingly out of the title race and a goal down ahead of their Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Barca, the team are ‘clinging to the Champions League like a burning nail’ to save their season.

Ancelotti eyeing Brazil role

Ancelotti still has another year to run on his contract after this season but the ex-Milan boss is believed to have been approached by Brazil to coach their national team following the nation’s disappointing performance at the 2022 World Cup.

Although Ancelotti has insisted he will respect his contract, he is believed to be aware that he has no guaranteed future in Madrid and may end his tenure with the club on his own terms at the end of the season.

The notion that Ancelotti is under pressure may raise eyebrows to some given Real’s dominance in recent times after winning the league and European cup double last season.

However, with the potential to move into a reputable international job and his impact on Real’s dressing room seemingly dying out, there may be an opportunity for change in the Madrid dugout as Los Blancos progress into a new era.
