Chelsea to SWAP Lukaku for Abraham?

Chelsea are reportedly interested in re-signing Tammy Abraham, and they could use a surprising player as a potential makeweight.

Tammy Abraham is having a tough time at Roma. Last season, Jose Mourinho revitalised the Italian giant, and the Englishman played a vital role in their success, contributing 17 league goals as well as a further nine in Europe to help Roma claim the inaugural UEFA Conference League.

This season, however, the goals are not flowing as before, which has consequently seen the 25-year-old spend a significant amount of time on the bench lately. Reports are now claiming that Abraham is unhappy and is weighing a return to England. His former club Chelsea are among the potential suitors.

As Calciomercato reports, the Blues retain an €80 million buy-back clause, but they have no intention of paying that much for the out-of-form Englishman who is valued by Roma at about €40m-45m. They do, however, have an ace up their sleeve that could sweeten the deal and soften Roma's stance.

Is Lukaku heading to the Italian capital?

That ace is Romelu Lukaku, who is also having a tough time at his current club. Unfit and out of form, the Belgian has struggled on loan at Inter, and the Milan club have already confirmed that they will not make his stay permanent.

Chelsea are looking to get rid of the striker, who has not had the desired impact since his €115m return to Stamford Bridge in August of 2021. One club that would like to take the 29-year-old off of the Blues' books? Roma.

According to Calciomercato, the Giallorossi are monitoring Lukaku's situation and "the Belgian could represent a bargaining chip not to be underestimated."

This isn't the first time that Chelsea are said to be considering using a high-profile player as a makeweight to get their preferred target. Indeed, earlier this week, reports surfaced that they might include Christian Pulisic in a deal to bring Victor Osimhen to Stamford Bridge.

Could they do the same with Tammy Abraham?
