Todd Boehly defends abysmal Chelsea record

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has defended his first year in charge of the club.

The American billionaire has been at the helm of the west London club for his first full season this campaign.

At the beginning of the season, he sacked Thomas Tuchel after a string of poor results and a disagreement over the direction of recruitment, with a huge crop of fresh names coming into the fold.

He then nabbed Graham Potter from Brighton, before going on to break the world record amount spent during the January transfer window.

But the former Seagulls coach failed to get the Blues up to speed in the Premier League, even though they managed to gain entry to the Champions League quarterfinals.

Boehly therefore sacked Potter last month and installed club legend Frank Lampard into the dugout, but the former midfielder has also failed to get the club going, getting knocked out of the Champions League to Real Madrid, and losing each of his four Premier League matches - the latest being a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal on Tuesday night at the Emirates Stadium.

Boehly opens up about Chelsea time

But Boehly, speaking at the Milken Institute Global Conference, has come out to defend his ownership of Chelsea.

He said: “The fans are demanding and they want to win. We get that, we want to win. Our view is that this is a long-term project, and we’re committed to the long term, and we very much believe that we’re going to figure it out."
