Timber set for Ajax exit after girlfriend goes house hunting in Liverpool
Jurrien Timber is believed to be working towards an Ajax exit after reports that his girlfriend is searching for a house in Liverpool in anticipation of a move to England.
The defender opted to stay with Ajax last year, turning down the option of a reunion with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, but he is expected to leave the Dutch side this summer as he enters the final two years of his contract.
Wilfred Genee, a presenter on the Dutch show Veronica Offside, revealed the news, saying: "It seems that his girlfriend is already looking for a house in Liverpool. She is also busy with it, so she will probably leave soon."
EXCLUSIVE: Timber is Ten Hag's priority for Man Utd
According to Genee, there is a good chance that Timber will leave for England after this season and that he has already sent his girlfriend ahead: Timber has been on the radar of United and Liverpool, among others, in recent months.
Dutch reaction to Timber's rumoured exit
Former Dutch winger Andy van der Meyde believes Timber will likely leave Ajax after rejecting a move away last summer, saying: "You sometimes see that in the field, that he thinks: I wish I had left sooner."
Still, according to Wesley Sneijder, it is a huge shame for the Eredivisie. The former international sees Timber as a huge talent, but still expects the defender to fall short for the Premier League: "He will lose every header with those wardrobes in the Premier League. That will be his downfall. Lisandro Martínez is also small , but it comes out above everything. I used to have that with Cannavaro. He is also small, but won every header."
Timber has been particularly often associated with a transfer to Ten Hag's Manchester United in recent weeks. The head coach of course knows the qualities of the defender and knows what he brings with Timber.
Nevertheless, the clubs will have to come up with a considerable sum of money to get Timber loose at Ajax. Timber's ETV currently amounts to 42.5 million euros. This makes Timber the most valuable player in Ajax's selection this season.
