Liverpool's search for a defensive midfielder continues and they are now targeting PSV's Ibrahim Sangare, according to his agent's brother.

Once one of Europe's most sought-after talents, Sangare has gone a bit under the radar since his switch to the Eredivisie. Courted by some of Europe's biggest clubs while at Toulouse, he made what was then a surprising move to PSV in 2020.

However, it turned out to be the right decision as his stocks have only continued to rise since, with his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) peaking at €25.5 million last season. The Ivorian is now once again subject to interest from some European juggernauts, if his agent's brother is to be believed.

REVEALED: How Chelsea could spend €270m THIS WEEK

The man in question is former Ajax and Manchester City player Kiki Musampa. He revealed the interest in his brother's client while speaking to Dutch ESPN at the weekend.

What did Musampa say?

"There are big clubs that are interested," Musampa claimed, "such as Bayern Munich. Ibrahim is also on the list at Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, but he is not yet a priority there. Nottingham Forest had already made an offer, but that was not enough."

Liverpool are still in the market for a defensive-minded midfielder having seen their hijack of Moises Caicedo's Chelsea transfer hijacked (re-hijacked?) by the Blues, while the London club are also considered the favourites to land Southampton wonderkid Romeo Lavia despite Liverpool agreeing a fee with the Saints.

Sangare reportedly has a release clause worth just €37.5m, which would make the 25-year-old a much cheaper alternative to the 19-year-old Belgian.

The PSV man has played a big role in his side's three competitive games thus far, helping them win the Supercup against reigning champions Feyenoord and scoring against Sturm Graz in Champions League qualifying. He also started in their Eredivisie opening day victory over Utrecht on Saturday.
