Arsenal are interested in signing Joao Cancelo from Manchester City in the summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Cancelo was a huge part of City's successes in recent years before he was cast away in January earlier this season.

The Portugal international was sent on loan to Bayern Munich for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign, where he has not convinced the Bavarian club to take up their €70 million buy option.

Instead, he could move to Arsenal in the near future, where he would work under former City assistant manager Mikel Arteta.

Not only does the Spanish boss know Cancelo well, but his system would get the best out of the 28-year-old.

And signing players from his old club has worked out incredibly well for Arteta, who purchased Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus last summer.

City should be looking to sell Cancelo to abroad instead, to avoid strengthening their closest competitors once more.

Cancelo to Barcelona?

Barcelona are also keen on Cancelo, according to Romano, but finances could be an issue.

Barca have struggled to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations in recent seasons and the signing of Cancelo would make that even more difficult.

Although a potential deal could send Cancelo to Barcelona on loan for the 2023-24 season, with the option of making it permanent.

Head coach Xavi is reported to be a big fan of Cancelo, who has starred previously for Juventus, Inter and Valencia.

Plus he is said to have made the signing of a right-back a priority in the summer, with the role being a problem position this past campaign.
