Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed which striker Manchester United see as their perfect transfer target.

Following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo late last year, United have struggled to find a real solution for their number nine position. While Marcus Rashford has done an admirable job in taking on the mantle of becoming the Red Devils' best goalscorer, the reality is that United are still without a proper striker.

Short-term option Wout Weghorst has been just that - a short-term option and not a particularly great one at that. The lanky Dutch forward has only scored twice since his January loan from Championship side Burnely and he has failed to find the back of the net at all in the Premier League.

Though much improved under Erik ten Hag, the revolution at United is far from complete as bitter losses to Newcastle United and Sevilla have shown. With United keen to get back to challenging for major titles next season, a great striker needs to be found who can propel the Red Devils back to the top of the Premier League and the European game.

What did Fabrizio Romano say?

Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims that United have already discovered the perfect solution to their woes, but he may not be easy to get. Speaking to his 1.58 million subscribers on YouTube, Romano revealed that United are still looking to get their hands on Tottenham's Harry Kane.

"I can confirm what I said in the last few months," Romano stated. "Manchester United internally consider Harry Kane technically as the perfect striker for their project. From what I understand, Erik ten Hag is looking for that kind of striker - traditional number nine, goalscorer, a physical player also with some experience..."

"That kind of player," he added, "[like] Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen, a proper number nine. This is what Manchester United want. A physical player, again, is something that they really need in the idea of the coaching staff of Man United."

Pulling off such a signing won't be straightforward, though: "But, at the moment, guys, for Harry Kane we have to respect Tottenham's position, and Daniel Levy will try his best to keep the player. He knows how important it would be to be able to keep Harry Kane, to send a message also to the fans after a really disappointing season."
