Man Utd warned over selling ‘best in the world’ player this summer

Manchester United boast the best one-vs-one player in the world, according to a claim made by Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.

The Red Devils moved into the FA Cup final on Sunday thanks to a dramatic success over Brighton on penalties, and though Moises Caicedo impressed for the Seagulls, it was a Man Utd player who caught the eye of Maddison.

The England international took to Twitter to hail Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s defensive abilities as he shutdown Kaoru Mitoma of Brighton, one of the breakout players of the Premier League season.

“AWB is ridiculously good at 1 v 1 defending,” Maddison claimed.

“Probably the best in the world bar none. So many wingers run out of ideas when playing directly against him.”

Wan-Bissaka on the move?

Despite these attributes, it looks unlikely that Wan-Bissaka will remain at Man Utd beyond the summer transfer window, with manager Erik ten Hag preferring a more dynamic style of defender who offers more in attack. For this reason, Diogo Dalot has been first choice this season, while there are transfer links with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.

Wan-Bissaka has made 26 appearances for Man Utd this season and has enjoyed an increased role in the second half of the season, with Dalot hampered because of hamstring trouble.

The Portuguese, though, has played nearly 1000 more minutes than Wan-Bissaka this term, and while the ex-England U21 international has contributed just a single assist, Dalot boasts two goals and three decisive passes to his name, highlighting the difference between the pair.

Wan-Bissaka has a contract at Man Utd that expires in 2024, while he still boasts a healthy Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €31.5m. With a year left on his deal, he is expected to be one of a number of players sold as the Ten Hag transfer revolution goes on.

Maddison, it seems, would certainly take him at Leicester.
