Marcus Rashford has only scored once in 10 Premier League games this season and Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has admitted that neither club nor player is happy.

Rashford was United's 17-goal top scorer in the Premier League last season and hit 30 across all competitions, and was handed what looked like a richly deserved new five-year contract in June.

But he has disappointed since, with his strike in the 3-1 defeat at Arsenal back in September his only one to date this season.

Rasmus Hojlund, a €75 million summer arrival from Atalanta, has picked up the goalscoring mantle in Europe with five goals in four game, but he is yet to get off the market domestically, where Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay are this year's three-goal top scorers.

Speaking ahead of United's meeting with Luton at Old Trafford on Saturday, Erik ten Hag admitted his frustration.

Ten Hag: 'high expectations'

"He is not happy, we are not happy," he said. "He has high expectations for himself. In this moment he is not in his best form but I know he will be back. When the team is playing better he will be better and score goals.

"He is totally aware of everything, and he will be back on track. Sometimes you only need one game and I am sure that he will get there."

Rashford recently angered Ten Hag after being spotted out celebrating his birthday at Manchester's Chinawhite nightclub in the aftermath of United's 3-0 loss to Manchester City last month.

He missed the subsequent 1-0 win over Fulham but this was attributed to a leg injury with Ten hag saying the party issue had been 'dealt with internally'.

Ten Hag has had more than one dressing room issue to deal with recently, with Rashford's one-time England teammate Jadon Sancho now looking to have played his last game for the club after publicly undermining the manager.
