Neymar has dropped a further hint that Lionel Messi may soon join him at Paris Saint-Germain.

The Brazil international star, who teamed up with the Argentine at Barcelona from 2013-17, previously spoke of his desire to team up with Messi once again.

With Barcelona not in a position to pay the wages of both players, speculation has been rife that Messi could be set for a switch to PSG when his contract expires at the end of June.

Neymar has been only too keen to fan this by posting on his social channels a picture of him embracing Messi after the Argentine won the Ballon d’Or.

It is captioned: “See you soon my friend.”

However, the clubs have been paired together in the Champions League, making Neymar’s latest message ambiguous.

Messi to team up with Neymar and Mbappe?

Messi’s arrival at PSG would be a major coup for the club, which is still trying to persuade Neymar and fellow forward Kylian Mbappe to sign new contracts.

Both players will see their deals expire in 2022, which makes them liable to be sold in the summer if no new deals are penned.

PSG are confident that they are making good progress on both cases and if Messi was to be added to their ranks it would only further strengthen their ability to retain their top players. Both, after all, want the club to be capable of winning the Champions League.

  • Alternatively, Messi could arrive at PSG as an alternative to Kylian Mbappe, who is being strongly courted by Real Madrid.

He could also take the place of compatriot Angel Di Maria, whose contract at Parc des Princes is up in the summer.

Messi had been strongly linked with a move to Manchester City in the summer, where he would be reunited with former Barca mentor Pep Guardiola.

PSG are now seen as the frontrunners to sign him and Neymar’s latest social media hint suggests that they are well on track to doing just that.
