Amad Diallo scores on Man Utd debut against Liverpool
Amad Diallo has made an explosive start to his career at Manchester United, scoring in the club’s Under-23 match against Liverpool.
All eyes will be trained on Diallo on the weeks and months ahead after he completed a £22 million (€25m) move to Man Utd from Atalanta in January. He signed a five-year contract and the Red Devils could pay another £13m in bonuses.
Although the deal was largely thrashed out last summer, it was only made official a matter of days ago.
The 18-year-old has been thrust into the spotlight and much is expected of him at Old Trafford.
He has, however, made an encouraging start to life with Man Utd as he netted only 13 minutes into his debut for the Under-23 side against Liverpool.
Having gathered possession in the centre of the park thanks to a smart piece of pressing, Diallo sprinted towards the Liverpool goal. His power and pace was sufficient to dissect the Reds’ defence and with just the goalkeeper to beat he kept a cool head to fire into the corner of the net.
There is, however, no guarantee that Diallo will be rushed into the first team after such a promising start.
“He is an exciting young player,” Solskjaer told Stadium Astro when asked if Diallo could be the solution to Man Utd’s search for a right winger.
“It is a long-term signing.
“You don’t sign an 18 year old who has played 60 minutes in Italy and expect the world from him straight away.
“But he is a talent that we believe in and he is going to get time to develop.
“Hopefully in 10, 12 years time everyone will talk about him as a successful signing and a very good right winger.”
