Leverkusen sign Fosu-Mensah from Man Utd on a three-year deal
Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed the signing of Manchester United right-back Timothy Fosu-Mensah on a three-year deal.
The 23-year-old defender had six months remaining on his contract at Old Trafford, meaning the Bundesliga side had to pay a minimal compensation fee to push a deal through in January.
That figure is believed to be around £1.8 million. Fosu-Mensah arrived in Germany on Tuesday and should be in the squad for Friday’s top-flight clash with Union Berlin.
Fosu-Mensah began his career in Holland, where he came through the Ajax youth academy before signing for Man Utd in 2016 at the age of 18.
The young defender worked his way through the club’s youth teams as a talented player that could play at right-back, centre back and even as a central midfielder.
However, since joining the club Man United have signed a number of big-name defenders and as such the Dutch talent has struggled for game time.
And after just three appearances and 108 minutes of game time this season, it makes sense that the young defender would opt for a move elsewhere.
