Official: Wolves sign Willian Jose on loan from Real Sociedad
Wolves have confirmed that they have signed Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose on loan.
The Premier League side have confirmed the deal is for the remainder of the 2020/21 season. They have also affirmed there is a purchase option in the agreement, thought to be around the £17.8 million (€20m) mark.
He must receive a work permit and international clearance before the deal, which has been touted for a handful of days, is finally rubber stamped.
In a statement on the club’s official website, Wolves said: “Willian Jose has been with Sociedad since 2016, scoring 62 times in 170 appearances for the La Liga side, but now provides a fresh option in attack for Nuno Espirito Santo.
“The striker was on target for the Spanish side as recently as Wednesday evening, when his two goals helped defeat Cordoba 2-0 in the Copa Del Rey – two of his six goals this campaign.
“After starting his career in his home continent, in Brazil and then Uruguay, Willian Jose showed his potential during a series of loan moves to Europe, including to Real Madrid and Real Zaragoza, before moving to Sociedad permanently.
“At international level, Wolves’ new man has worn the famous Brazil shirt at under-20 level, with whom he won the Under-20 World Cup when making his way in the game.
“Now primed to grace the Premier League for the first time in his career, Willian Jose will be handed the number 12 shirt upon his arrival in the West Midlands, but is not expected to be available for Wednesday’s Premier League clash at Chelsea.”
The move sets in motion other deals. Sociedad are set to replace him in their ranks with Carlos Fernandez from Sevilla, who will in turn sign Atalanta’s wantaway star Papu Gomez.
