Ozil posts cryptic tweet over imminent Arsenal exit
Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil has posted a cryptic message on Twitter regarding his expected transfer to Fenerbahce.
Ozil is on the brink of terminating his deal with the Gunners after seven-and-a-half years in north London.
Widespread reports in the English and Turkish media have stated that the World Cup winner has agreed a deal to join his favourite club Fenerbahce this month.
Ozil himself has been posting hints on social media that a transfer is imminent, including a tweet on Saturday of two hearts in the colours of Fenerbahce alongside an egg-timer.
And now, on Sunday, he has followed that up with another tweet of the number ‘67’ alongside a heart.
It has been suggested by Turkish newspaper Fanatik that this refers to the shirt number he has chosen to wear at Fenerbahce.
Ozil is said to have selected this number in homage to his family’s hometown of Zonguldak in Turkey, which has a postcode beginning with the number 67.
The 32-year-old’s trademark shirt number has been the number 10, but this is unavailable at Fenerbahce as it is taken by Mbwana Samatta.
Ozil has been frozen out of the Arsenal squad this season and has not made a single appearance for the club since March 2020.
