Real Madrid confirm that Modric will sign new contract?
Real Madrid director Emilio Butragueno has appeared to suggest that veteran midfielder Luka Modric will sign a new contract at the club.
The 35-year-old sees his current deal at the Santiago Bernabeu expire in June and he has been in discussions over penning an extension until the summer of 2022.
Despite his age, Modric has still been producing some outstanding performances and he wowed tv audiences on Saturday against Alaves with a sublime outside of the boot through ball to Ferland Mendy.
“There are players like Modric who make this sport better,” Butragueno gushed when asked about Modric’s contract.
“His pass to [Ferland] Mendy in the first half was a fine thing. It’s a luxury for us to have him.
“He’s given us so much; he’s still giving us so much and he’ll continue to do so.”
Modric signed for Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2012 for £30 million and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the best midfield players of his generation.
He won the 2018 Ballon d’Or and has led Real Madrid to four Champions League titles and two La Liga crowns among a plethora of team and individual honours.
