Mbappe’s deal with the Parc des Princes side is up in 2022, and unless a new contract is penned before the summer, he could be sold.

PSG sporting director Leonardo has indicated that the club are not going “to beg” the World Cup winner or Neymar to renew their terms.

Mbappe, meanwhile, is a known admirer of Real Madrid, having grown up supporting the club and dreaming of following in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo.

As such, Madrid are considered the leading candidates for his signature.

When Zidane was asked about a potential summer swoop, he replied: “I’m sorry. I understand you are asking me the question, but we’re only thinking about tomorrow’s Copa del Rey match. The rest, that’s for the media to talk about.”

Zidane was forced to concede, however, the Mbappe may be able to muscle his way to Spain.

“In the end, yes, the great players choose where they want to play, like Ronaldo,” he said. “But after that, everyone has a contract and everyone has his ties … Me, as ever, I don’t trouble myself with the business of others. I only think of my players.”

Mbappe has played 146 matches for PSG since joining from Monaco in the summer of 2017 and has scored 104 goals in that time.

He is regarded as one of the most coveted players in the game, with Liverpool the other club considered to hold a serious stake in being able to sign him.
