Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc says that he would rather keep on-loan Brazilian youngster Reinier but would discuss a potential return to Real Madrid if requested to.

The 18-year-old joined Madrid from Flamengo for €30 million in 2020 and was last summer loaned to Dortmund for two years.

However, despite being tagged as one of South America’s most exciting youngsters, the attacking midfielder has struggled badly to adapt to the physical demands of European and German football.

He has made no starts and appeared just four times as a substitute for a total of 69 minutes. His last appearance was a month ago in the 5-1 thrashing by Stuttgart.

  • This has led to reports that Madrid are unhappy with his lack of game-time and are considering recalling him to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“In principle, we do not want to hand him back,” Zorc stated on Sunday.

“Of course, I’ll listen to everything and if someone is unhappy because Reinier has played too few matches, then you talk about it.

“But we won’t be initiating anything ourselves.”

Reinier has suffered from a number of injuries at Dortmund and also contracted Coronavirus last month.
