Former Arsenal defender breaks down in tears live on television
Former Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista broke down in tears during an emotional post-match interview following Valencia’s latest defeat.
Valencia were thrashed 3-0 by Getafe on Saturday, a result that leaves them languishing in 14th place in La Liga.
They find themselves just five points above the relegation zone, despite still being in the Champions League at this time last year.
When it was put to Gabriel just how much Valencia have fallen in the last year, the Brazilian became emotional.
“It’s a bummer hearing that,” said a tearful Gabriel, who repeatedly had to pause and compose himself as he broke down.
“A club as big as Valencia and hearing that is a bummer.
“But we have to get out of this because we’re Valencia and the club deserves more.”
Gabriel made 64 appearances for Arsenal between 2014 and 2017, winning two FA Cups and a Community Shield.
He joined Valencia in 2017 and has been a regular for the last four seasons, winning the Copa del Rey in 2019.
However, Los Che have endured a dreadful campaign this time around. They are next in action next Friday against Villarreal, another former club of Gabriel’s.
