Heung-min Son ‘very happy’ that Gareth Bale is finally getting game time
Heung-min Son insists he is “very happy” that Gareth Bale is finally starting to tally up the minutes for Tottenham after a low-key return to Tottenham so far in 2020/21.
After being deemed surplus to requirements by Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid, Bale secured a huge loan back to Spurs until the end of the season.
However, his return has far been the dream that many would have hoped, as prior to the Europa League match against Wolfsberger on Thursday he had started just 10 matches in all competitions.
He would start that one, though, and made the most of his opportunity with a goal and an assist, with the assist coming for Son with a cross in from the right-hand side.
Though it hasn’t happened as much as supporters would perhaps like, Son linked up well with Bale on the night, and the South Korean hopes more opportunities to play together lie ahead.
“I have a really close relationship with him,” Son said after Tottenham won 4-1 away from home.
“I’m very happy he’s getting game time and scored a goal and got an assist. I really enjoy playing with him.”
Bale’s reaction to the game
Spurs haven’t been in the best of form recently, and Bale said after the victory that the players were aiming to use the opportunity against Wolfsberger to boost their confidence.
“We had the mindset of coming to score as many goals as we could and get some confidence,” the Welshman admitted.
“Obviously we haven’t won many lately so it’s important to get a win to breed confidence. Hopefully, this is the start of a good run.
“It was good [to score]. I just chopped inside and hit it. It’s nice to get on the scoresheet to help the team.
“It’s good to get four away goals. It’s always good to win a game by that margin. We’ll take the second leg like it’s 0-0.”
