Man Utd’s summer transfer plans revealed by Solskjaer

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has outlined the club’s summer transfer plans.

Red Devils boss Solskjaer has admitted that he is already targeting additions to his squad, though he did note that it is unlikely there will be dramatic changes.

Man Utd already moved to sign Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles, Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri for over £75 million this season. In addition, Edinson Cavani arrived on a free transfer.

While Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho continues to be linked with the club, Solskjaer did hint, however, that big business may have to wait until the Covid-19 crisis is over.

“I still think we’re doing the same planning, preparation,” Man Utd boss Solskjaer explained. “But, of course, the pandemic has changed the market and it’s changed the world and it might affect what we can do.

“We just have to see where we’re at in the next few months but we’re looking at players and targets as we normally would do.

“We have done some very good business in the last few windows I feel and it’s not like wholesale changes we need to make. It’s the odd contribution and addition to the squad.”

‘Man Utd signings gave players a kick up the backside’

Even if summer additions Van de Beek and Telles have yet to really make their mark on the Man Utd squad, Solskjaer feels they have improved the form of others.

“Nobody is guaranteed a place in the team like a season ticket card here, you’ve got to perform to be part of the success of Man United and I’ve been part of it myself with strikers coming in, and you’ve just got to take the challenge head on,” Solskjaer said.

“I’ve really enjoyed the response I’ve had from players. You say Luke Shaw, you say David de Gea but we signed Donny and Amad Diallo now, we’ve signed players that we believe in but that’s also kicked some of the other players up the backside to perform and make sure they keep performing.”

Man Utd are second in the Premier League behind Manchester City, although Solskjaer will lead his men joint top on Saturday if they overcome Everton at Old Trafford.
