Messi invited to join Suarez at Atletico Madrid
Angel Correa has invited Lionel Messi to join his former Barcelona strike-partner Luis Suarez at Atletico Madrid next season.
Messi’s future at Barcelona is shrouded in doubt as his contract at Camp Nou expires at the end of the current season.
The Argentine’s relationship with the club has improved a touch in recent weeks. But his explosive falling out with the hierarchy last summer led to him publicly declaring his desire to leave.
In the end, he decided to stay for one more campaign and Paris Saint-Germain are the favourites to sign him on a Bosman transfer in June.
Manchester City are also a contender for Messi’s signature, but Correa has now thrown Atletico Madrid’s hat into the ring too.
Suarez has made Barca regret that decision as he has scored 14 goals in just 16 games, allowing Atletico to open up a seven-point lead at the top of the table – with a game in hand.
“I don’t understand how Barcelona let a forward like Suarez go, he’s an incredible player and we’re very happy to have him with us,” Correatold TyC Sports.
“Atletico Madrid’s doors are open to Messias well. I hope things continue to be as sweet here because we want to end this season happy.”
Atletico are next in action on Monday evening against Celta Vigo at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
