Milan currently doing ‘everything possible’ to avoid losing Donnarumma and Calhanoglu for free

Milan director Ivan Gazidis says the club will do “everything possible” to keep two of their star players at the San Siro in Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu.

Both Donnarumma and Calhanoglu have contracts with Milan that expire this summer, and are already available to talk to other teams about a potential free transfer.

Chelsea have been strongly linked with Donnarumma, while Man Utd have made their interest known in Calhanoglu.

It would be a major blow to the Rossoneri to lose two key men, not on only for their contributions on the field, but because Milan will have done themselves out of significant transfer fees by not tying them down to new contracts sooner.

Gazidis knows their worth, and insists the Italian giants are doing all they can to make sure new contracts are signed.

“We will do everything possible to reach an agreement,” the Milan CEO told Sky Sport Italia:

“We want them to stay, they are two important players for the club and the team and they are great professionals.

“We will do everything possible, but the choice will also be theirs and we will respect it. I am confident that an agreement can be found.”

Donnarumma and Calhanoglu have both been vital in Milan’s Serie A assault this season, as the club find themselves in the best position to claim the Scudetto for the first time in nearly a decade.

They are currently top of the league after 21 matches, two points clear of city rivals Inter and seven points clear of defending champions Juventus.

Donnarumma has eight clean sheets in Serie A, while Calhanohglu has contributed one goal and eight assists in 15 starts.

As well as Chelsea, the 21-year-old goalkeeper has been linked PSG and even Inter in the past, but has previously stated his desire to remain with Milan, saying:

“My agent [Mino Raiola] will talk to the club, there’s no problem.

“I want to stay at Milan for a long time, but we’ll see what the club decides. I want to relish this moment as long as I can.”
