Neymar’s future at the Parc des Princes has been shrouded in doubt for several months as his current contract expires in 2022.

Negotiations for a new deal had not proven fruitful in recent months but Brazilian journalist Marcelo Bechler – who has excellent connections to the player – reported on Tuesday that Neymar has all but agreed on a new four-year contract.

Bechler revealed that negotiations are so advanced that the new deal could become official as early as this week.

This follows on from Neymar’s comments at the weekend where he publicly declared his wish to stay at the club.

“I am happy today. I am truly happy. Things have changed a lot. I can’t exactly explain why,” Neymar told TF1.

“But today, I am feeling good. I have adapted. I am more calm and I am more happy.

“I want to stay at PSG. I also want Kylian to stay. We want PSG to be a great team.

“I want to continue to play football and be happy, that is the most important thing.”

Neymar joined PSG for a world record fee of €222 million from Barcelona in 2017.
