‘Tuchel will get Werner scoring 25 goals-a-season’
New Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel can get Timo Werner back to his very best after the attacker finally ended his goal drought – according to a former Arsenal star.
Werner had gone 14 games without finding the back of the net when he struck Chelsea’s second goal in their 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Monday evening.
However, the arrival of new coach Tuchel – who replaced Frank Lampard last month – has led to an upturn in fortunes for Chelsea.
They have won five and drawn one of Tuchel’s first six matches in charge, and former Arsenal winger Perry Groves believes the coach can revitalise Werner too.
“I like Timo Werner,” Groves told TalkSport.
“He’s been playing in different positions but he wants to play at centre-forward, and what I like about him is he never gives up.
“Even when he misses chances, he’s always making the runs and always getting in the right positions. He scored a goal and made the first goal too tonight, and it was no more than he deserved.
“I think under Tuchel, he could turn Werner into the player he was at RB Leipzig and get him back to a striker who gets 25 goals a season.”
Werner scored 34 goals in 45 games in all competitions for RB Leipzig last season.
