Bayern youngster hoping to make an impact next season despite probable transfer incomings
Bayern Munich wonderkid Chris Richards admits it is possible that the club could buy defensive recruits in the summer which would decrease his chances of breaking into the first team at the Allianz Arena.
The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Hoffenheim for the 2020/21 season to aid his development, though he has made just six appearances, with two of them coming in the Europa League.
Bayern have already completed one piece of business for the summer with the £37 million (€42.5m) acquisition of talented young defender Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig.
Richards is hoping to return to Bayern ahead of the 2021/22 season, but admits the club might continue to be active in the transfer market which would put him down the pecking order.
“Good question,” he replied to Kicker when asked if he would go back to the German champions this summer.
“They’ll see if they’ll buy or sell someone. I’m assuming right now that I’ll go back in the summer to show them what I’ve learned.”

One option for Richards would be to return to Hoffenheim next season, and the player says he and Bayern will decide what the best choice is for his career in the summer.
“Basically yes,” he responded when asked if another year at Hoffenheim was a possibility.
“If it is the best option for me to develop myself. But that will definitely not be decided until the summer. Then we will see what the next step is for me and what FC Bayern thinks is best for me.”
Richards’ immediate future at Bayern does not present an immediate concern for the Bavarian side as he currently has a contract in Munich until the summer of 2023.
