Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised Diogo Dalot for his efforts and performances while on loan at Milan this season.

After being surplus to requirements at Old Trafford for the 2020/21 season, he moved to Serie A where it was hoped he would receive more minutes in order to aid his development.

So far he has made 15 starts for Milan, though the majority of those have came in the Europa League – the competition in which his parent club Man Utd will face his loan club Milan on Thursday evening.

Having started so many games in Europe for Milan this season, he is in line to actually play against his parent club, and Solskjaer is keen to see how he’ll fare against his former team-mates, especially after his impressive goal against Verona.

“Diogo has done really well, he scored a very good goal this weekend and he’s enjoying his time over there,” the Norwegian told the official Man Utd website.

“It’s a chance to have a look at him for both sets of fans. We’re very happy with Diogo, that he went there to get the experience of playing for such a massive, iconic club and getting the standards required every single week.”

Will Dalot sign for Milan from Man Utd permanently?

The Sun previously reported that Milan were looking into the possibility of signing Dalot permanently from Man Utd for around £15m this summer.

However, the Red Devils will likely not accept such as an offer as they would be keen to recoup the £19m they paid for the full-back in the summer of 2018.

Furthermore, Man Utd were previously linked with a move for Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier in order to provide cover and competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

If Dalot’s impressive performances at Milan continue, Solskjaer may opt to bring him back following his loan spell and reintegrate him as part of his squad again.
