Who is Wilfried Singo? The flying Torino wing-back linked with Liverpool and Milan
Liverpool could be set to land another right-sided player this summer with reports coming out of Italy suggesting they have already contacted Torino about 20-year-old Wilfried Singo.
Since breaking onto the scene with Torino in 2019/20. Singo has since become a key member of the Torino first team and one of their standout performers in what has been a dreadful 2020/21.
There is a real possibility that Torino could suffer relegation this season, and if that happens then he’ll likely be one of the first players to leave to balance the books.
What position does Wilfried Singo play in?
Singo primarily plays as a right wing-back or right midfielder, however he can be deployed in any position down the right wing including as an attacking midfielder and as a full-back.
How good is Wilfried Singo?
Any player to look good for Torino this season will have been a struggle, but Singo is one of the few players in the maroon side of Turin who can hold his head up high despite the club’s struggles.
He made his debut for Torino in the 2019/20 season and in the 2020/21 campaign has gone on to start 16 out of 27 possible games in Serie A, making him a trusted player despite his young age.
His athleticism and adaptability are two key strengths as it is these two factors that allow him to bomb up and down the right flank, contributing both in attack and defence.
Any prospective suitor will be looking at his ability to play anywhere down the right flank as a definite advantage.
He does suffer a bit when it comes to goal contributions, though, as in 17 starts in all competitions he has managed just one goal and two assists.
Within Serie A, he averages 2.5 completed dribbles and 4.3 completed crosses per game.
Singo is still very much a raw talent in that he is capable of dazzling bits of skill but perhaps needs to focus more on the fundamentals of the game like his final ball.
With the correct coaching, though, he could become terrific.
What clubs are interested in Wilfried Singo?
According to a report from Tuttosport, Liverpool have already had an offer of £17 million (€20m) rejected by Torino for the Ivorian, though they will apparently go back in with a higher off as we approach the end of the season.
Though not a classic right-back, Liverpool believe Singo would be able to provide sufficient competition and support for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has looked desperately fatigued over the last few months after playing more or less constant football with the Reds since debuting.
In attack, Jurgen Klopp’s side also lack direct wingers, in that Sadio Mane on the left and Mohamed Salah on the right are inverted.
Singo would be able to provide something different with either overlapping runs down the right from full-back, or direct runs beyond the full-back from his role as a winger.
Klopp clearly wants a player like this, as before the club signed Diogo Jota they were on the cusp of acquiring Ismaila Sarr from Watford.
Liverpool face competition from Milan for Singo, however.
The Rossoneri are keen to add to their young, vibrant squad with the acquisition of a new right-back, with Diogo Dalot likely to return to Manchester United after his loan spell at San Siro this summer.
When does Wilfried Singo’s contract expire?
Singo’s current contract runs out in 2023 with the option for another year.
What is Wilfried Singo’s Instagram?
Singo does not have a official Instagram page yet.
Who is Wilfried Singo’s girlfriend?
Singo is currently not dating anyone publicly.
