Confirmed: Roy Hodgson to leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season

Roy Hodgson will step down from his role as Crystal Palace manager in the summer after four years in charge at Selhurst Park.

Hodgson, 73, had been expected to depart at the end of the season, with retirement a likely option, and it has now been confirmed that the Eagles will be looking for a new manager in the summer.

The former England boss is a popular figure at the club, having steered them clear of relegation in his first season. Palace made the worst start ever to a Premier League season in 2017/18, losing their first seven games without scoring a goal.

Four of those matches were under Frank de Boer, who arrived in a bid to change the club’s style of play after Sam Allardyce left the previous season.

Hodgson, who also had spells with Blackburn Rovers, Fulham, Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League as well as numerous other jobs across a 45-year managerial career, leaves with Palace in the bottom half of the top flight.

Who could replace Hodgson?

There have been a number of names mentioned, with chairman Steve Parrish expected to target a much younger man for the role.

With that in mind, Frank Lampard has been heavily linked with the job. He has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in January.

After years at Bournemouth, Eddie Howe is also said to be in the frame. He departed the Cherries after relegation from the Premier League last season, and has held talks with Celtic about possibly replacing Neil Lennon in Glasgow.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has also seen his name connected to the job.
