Wijnaldum would be interested in Bayern Munich move, claims agent
Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum would be interested in a move to Bayern Munich this summer, according to the player’s agent.
Having joined the Anfield side in 2016, Wijnaldum has established himself as one of the most impressive holding midfielders in the Premier League.
However, it now seems unlikely that the Holland international will sign a contract extension with Liverpool and instead opt in to leaving the club when his current deal expires at the end of the season.
According to reports in Spain and England, the frontrunners for Wijnaldum’s signature this summer have long been Barcelona.
However, the player’s agent has now suggested that the central midfielder would be interested in hearing what Bayern have to offer his client.
Speaking to German broadcaster Sport1, Humphry Nijman all but confirmed that the midfielder would leave Liverpool this summer and would consider an offer from the German champions.
“Wijnaldum is a free transfer and keeps all options open,” said Humphry Nijman. “Bayern is a great club. If they are interested in him, they are welcome to talk to us.”
Could Bayern beat Barcelona to Wijnaldum signing?
While it remains to be seen whether the Dutch midfielder will leave Liverpool this summer, there is some logic behind Bayern pushing the boat out to sign Wijnaldum.
After spending more than €60 million on bringing Dayot Upamecano and Julian Nagelsmann to Munich, Bayern are unlikely to have a huge amount left of next season’s transfer budget.
As such, the club will likely have to be smarter in the window and pounce on deals that could see players make the move to Munich on a free transfer – such as Wijnaldum’s current situation.

As well as that, the 30-year-old talent would also be an extremely useful signing for Nagelsmann’s side next season since Bayern already look particularly light in midfield options.
Having failed to replace Thiago Alcantara last season, Bayern will also lose Javi Martinez this summer as well as fill-in central midfielder David Alaba.
In other words, Wijnaldum would make a lot of sense for Bayern as a priority in the coming summer window.
