Antoine Griezmann says that Atletico Madrid is the best place for him to play his football after being officially presented as a new player on Wednesday.

Griezmann completed a shock return to Atletico from Barcelona on deadline day on a two-year loan with option to buy. The transfer could also become an obligation if Griezmann plays a certain number of games in the Spanish capital.

This move ended a disappointing two-year spell at Barca. He arrived at Camp Nou in 2019 for €120 million from Atletico Madrid but struggled to enjoy the same impact as he had during his first spell at Atletico.

He scored only 35 goals in 102 games and struggled to find his tactical place in the team together with Lionel Messi, as the two often occupied the same positions.

What did Griezmann say?

“I’m content and happy,” Griezmann said on Wednesday as he was presented as a new Atletico Madrid player again.

“I’ve been ten days unable to sleep because I was waiting for this moment, but now I’m enjoying it with my family.

“I’m going to give everything to repay the great effort the club made to bring me back. My part was easy. I wanted to come back no matter what; it’s always been the best place for me, the place where I’m happy on and off the pitch.”

In his first spell at the club between 2014 and 2019, Griezmann scored 133 goals in 257 games.

However, despite winning a number of cups, Griezmann is still yet to win La Liga and this will no doubt be a key objective of his this term.

The 30-year-old did, however, win the biggest trophy in football in 2018 as he lifted the World Cup with France.
