PSG beat off competition from several clubs to secure the signing of Ramos, but the centre-back has yet to play for his new side.

The Parisian side have certainly missed his leadership qualities in the heart of the rearguard, but why has he yet to feature for them?

Ramos’ injury woes

Sergio Ramos has not played for PSG yet because he has been suffering from a persistent calf injury. It is a problem he has seemed to have come close to overcoming on several occasions yet according to AS, he is close to returning to action.

PSG have not given a date when Sergio Ramos may be available to make his debut, which has aroused some suspicions in terms of when he may be able to play.

According to the latest update from the club’s official website: “Sergio Ramos continued his individual preparation on the training ground.”

It is hoped that he will be able to feature for PSG next month, although by that stage he will have gone the best part of half a year without competitive action. When he is fit, he is expected to be a starter along with Marquinhos, with Presnel Kimpembe the alternate.

Persistent problems

Concerns have been raised about the 35-year-old Ramos because he endured such an injury-hit final season with Real Madrid.

He suffered a string of issues with Los Blancos last season, missing a total of 32 matches. Although none of these issues were particularly serious, they were so frequent that concerns over his overall fitness levels have been raised.

Should Sergio Ramos’ issues continue at PSG, there will be serious questions asked over the wisdom of signing a player with such a recent history of problems.
