Bayern won't let Lewandowski run contract down

Bayern Munich are prepared to give Robert Lewandowski an ultimatum at the end of the season.

Lewandowski's contract is up in June 2023, causing Bayern to worry about losing their star player on a free transfer.

As such, they will look to sell the 33-year-old this summer should he choose not to sign a new deal.

The Bavarian outfit are prepared to offer a one-year extension, running until 2024, as is common practice for players over the age of 30.

Or, they would also consider a two-year extension if Lewandowski agrees to a pay cut, according to Sport Bild.

Yet, the world-class striker doesn't seem all too bothered about the speculation over his future.

"When you show your performance on the pitch, it doesn't matter whether you play in team A, B or C," he said.

"I can't think too much about speculation about other clubs or a new contract.

"In the end, I have to stay focused and do my best. That's always first on my mind. I'm an experienced player and hide everything else. There is still enough time. I stay patient and calm and don't stress."

Will Lewandowski leave Bayern?

Lewandowski recently received The Best FIFA Men's Player of the Year award, indicating that he remains at the top of his game and, indeed, world football.

So, there will be plenty of suitors should the Bundesliga leaders decide to let him go this summer.

Bayern could command a fee of around €50 million for the striker, who has 34 goals in 27 appearances this season, which could go a long way towards a replacement.

Indeed, Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland could be an excellent replacement, with the added bonus of poaching from a direct rival, the same as with Lewandowski seven years ago.

That said, it would come as a shock for Bayern's directors, Oliver Kahn, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Hasan Salihamidzic, to sanction the sale of the club legend.

At this stage, expect the best player in the world to remain at the club where he elevated to such a level.
