The final week of the January transfer market is just around the corner, yet Tanguy Ndombele is still a Tottenham player. Even though it has been obvious for some time that Spurs want to move him on, they still haven’t managed to do so.

As things stand, Paris Saint-Germain seem the most likely club to sign the midfielder and talks are reportedly ongoing between the French and English club. They are discussing a potential loan and working out how much of the player’s salary would be paid by PSG.

However, this operation isn’t a done deal just yet. The main reason for this is the fact that PSG need to create space at the Parc des Princes for Ndombele. They currently have 35 players registered in their squad, which is by far the most of all clubs in Ligue 1. Therefore, Ndombele’s arrival can’t be confirmed until space is freed up in the PSG dressing room.

Paredes for Ndombele

There is one specific operation that could create room for Ndombele in Paris. The Ligue 1 leaders are looking to move on Leandro Paredes after two and a half years at the club, with the Argentine having played just 579 minutes in total over the course of the 2021/22 season.

If they can move Paredes on then this would free up salary and space for Ndombele to join the club this January. This, therefore, is the priority for PSG at this moment in time.

Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be a big fan of Ndombele and would love for him to return to Ligue 1, where the midfielder previously impressed for Lyon.

The chances of this transfer being completed before the end of the window remain high, but it has been a slow process so far and isn’t a done deal quite yet. PSG must press on with their exit operations, such as that of Paredes, before finalising the arrival of Ndombele.
