Barcelona fall behind Madrid in race to sign Haaland
Barcelona are well behind Real Madrid and Manchester City in the race to sign Erling Haaland, according to former Norway star and journalist Jan Age Fjortoft.
Haaland is arguably the hottest young property in Europe after an incredible two years at Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund resisted all interest in Haaland in the summer of 2021 but it is widely expected that the attacker will move on at the end of the 2021-22 campaign when a release clause believed to be around €75 million will be activated in his contract.
Virtually every top club in Europe is interested in signing the 21-year-old, including Manchester United, Bayern Munich, PSG, Manchester United and Chelsea.
But the three clubs most associated with Haaland are Real Madrid. Manchester City and Barcelona.
“Everything is between two clubs and I believe they are Real Madrid and Manchester City,” Fjortoft told TV2.
“I think Barcelona are more a possibility. Maybe it happens in the end, but, at this point in time, it’s between two clubs and two countries.”
“I have the feeling that Real Madrid are ahead of Barcelona.
“What I do know is that the process they are in right now depends on a lot of details. In the end, Erling will have to make a decision.”
It has been reported in Spain recently that Haaland would prefer a move to La Liga, and Madrid would also like to bring him to the Spanish capital to line up alongside Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr in attack.
Mbappe is set to join Madrid on a Bosman Transfer this summer when his contract at PSG expires.
