Lionel Messi has requested to return to Barcelona after less than a year away, according to El Chiringuito.

The Spanish sports show reports that Messi’s father and agent Jorge Messi has spoken to Barcelona president Joan Laporta to tell him that his son wants out of Paris.

Messi completed a shock Bosman Transfer to PSG last summer after he was unable for legal and financial reasons to sign a new contract with Barcelona.

The Argentine legend broke every record possible during over two decades at Barca, including scoring an incredible 672 goals in 778 games.

WHO ARE THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS IN THE WORLD?

However, Messi has been heavily criticised by fans and the media following a difficult first season at the Parc des Princes.

EUROPEAN GOLDEN SHOE RANKINGS

It took him until November 20 to score his first Ligue 1 goal and by the turn of the year, the 34-year-old only had one league goal and four assists (three of these assists coming in one game).

Even now, in the middle of March, Messi has still scored just two Ligue 1 goals this season.

And to make matters worse, Messi was one of the worst performers as PSG were dumped out of the Champions League last week – capitulating from 2-0 up on aggregate to lose 3-2 to Real Madrid.

Messi – along with teammate Neymar – was booed by PSG fans in the following game against Bordeaux on Sunday.

However, the chances of Messi returning to Camp Nou seem slim.

For starters, PSG are unwilling to let Messi go given that Kylian Mbappe is already set to join Real Madrid on a Bosman Transfer.

From Barcelona’s side, their coach Xavi is looking for a more traditional number 9 this summer – such as Erling Haaland.

Xavi also is trying to build a young team and is wary of bringing back a player who will be 35 this summer.
