Why Mbappe and Haaland won’t be joining Barcelona
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has explained why Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland won’t be joining the club, with the economic conditions of both deals making it impossible.
Both Mbappe and Haaland are set to leave PSG and Borussia Dortmund, respectively, this summer.
Mbappe’s move from PSG to Madrid is already widely considered to be as good as done.
The Frenchman’s contract at PSG expires in June and he has repeatedly rejected offers of an extension.
WHO ARE THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS IN THE WORLD?
The World Cup hero was involved in the biggest transfer saga of the summer in 2021 as he attempted to push through a move to Madrid.

The transfer didn’t go through but it has for some months now been accepted that Mbappe will move to the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season on a Bosman.
Barcelona were never really in the race for Mbappe but they were one of the main candidates to sign Haaland.
Haaland is set to leave Dortmund at the end of the season when a €75 million release clause is activated in his contract.

Madrid, Manchester City and Barcelona were the three main teams vying for his signature.
Barcelona coach Xavi even met the player in Munich a few weeks ago amidst reports Haaland had agreed to join the Blaugrana.
However, FootballTransfers understands that the Blaugrana have now pulled out of the race to buy Haaland – with Madrid favourites for him too.
Laporta has explained the reasons why.
What did Laporta say?
“[We sign] the one that has it clear that they want to play for Barcelona,” Laporta told reporters.
“The one who wants to come here. At the moment, none of the two has expressed that to me.
“What I have received are certain economic conditions that we wouldn’t accept under any circumstances.”
