Luis Suarez’s two-year contract at Atletico Madrid will expire this summer, but the striker wants to continue playing at the highest level in 2022/23 in order to arrive at the Qatar World Cup – where Uruguay will face Portugal, Ghana and South Korea – in the best possible condition. The 35-year-old is, therefore, looking for a new club and several teams have been linked so far.

Here, then, comes a look at five of the clubs that are currently best-placed to sign Suarez to a contract when he becomes a free agent at the end of this campaign.

Luis Suarez to join Inter Milan?

Before joining Atleti in the summer of 2020, it seemed Luis Suarez was on his way to Serie A with Juventus, even taking what turned out to be a very controversial Italian language test. Now, he could finally make the move to Italy and do so with Inter Milan. They have been linked with Luis Suarez for many months already, although it is believed that it’s the club directors who want to sign him more than it’s a demand of Simone Inzaghi.

Luis Suarez to join Inter Miami?

There is also a chance Luis Suarez could move to Inter, but Inter Miami. Many 35-year-olds are linked with a final season or two in MLS and Inter Miami have become the favourite potential landing spot for a variety of reasons, so the Uruguayan could spend the second half of the 2022 MLS season there before heading off to the World Cup.

Luis Suarez to join Aston Villa?

Despite how successful he was at Liverpool, there actually aren’t many serious suitors for Luis Suarez in the Premier League. The one English club that has emerged as a major candidate is Aston Villa, where there is the Steven Gerrard link. The boss at Villa Park has previously labelled Luis Suarez as “possibly the best player I ever played with”, although it remains to be seen if he’ll sign off on a move for the 35-year-old version of Luis Suarez.

Luis Suarez to join Sevilla?

According to MARCA, there is a good chance that Luis Suarez could stay in LaLiga Santander, where he has been playing since 2014, scoring 174 goals in 251 appearances. Sevilla are in need of a centre-forward and would put Luis Suarez to good use, while he’d be able to stay in a familiar environment ahead of the World Cup.

Luis Suarez to stay at Atletico Madrid?

Although Luis Suarez looks more likely to leave Atletico Madrid than to stay, the capital city club remain an option too. The striker is no longer a starter for Diego Simeone, but he is starting to embrace his role as an impact player off the bench and there is a chance that the Uruguayan and Argentine, who have immense respect for each other, could decide to reunite for one more season.
