How much will Man Utd pay to release Martial?
Manchester United will offer Anthony Martial a staggering £12 million in order to release him this summer.
Martial’s contract at Old Trafford expires in 2024 and Man Utd are desperate to get him off their books, according to The Sun.
The Frenchman will cost them around £25m in wages if he were to stay at the club until the end of his contract.
Man Utd wages: How much does each player earn?
Thus, with Martial not part of incoming manager Erik ten Hag’s plans, Man Utd want to offer him half of that in order to leave immediately.
Martial completed a six-month loan move to Sevilla for the remainder of the season during the January transfer window.
The French forward had been desperate to quit Man Utd, putting in a transfer request at the beginning of the month due to a lack of playing time.
However, things have not gone well at Sevilla as he has been plagued by injuries and has failed to score in only eight La Liga appearances. He did, however, score once in three Europa League matches.
Man Utd have been paying 60 per cent of his wages in Seville.
Sevilla transfer chief Monchi has not ruled out making a permanent move for Martial, although it seems unlikely.
Martial joined Manchester United in 2015 as the world’s most expensive teenager but despite some bright spells has never truly fulfilled his potential. He has scored 79 goals in 269 games for the club.
He left for Sevilla on bad terms, having barely played at all at Man Utd since the start of December.
He was also involved in a bust-up with Man Utd interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
Following Man Utd’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, Rangnick told the media that Martial had refused to play. This was denied by Martial.
