Lewandowski to Barcelona: Difficult for me to stay at Bayern
Robert Lewandowski has stated that it is difficult to say that he will be playing for Bayern Munich next season, as a transfer to Barcelona looks increasingly likely.
Lewandowski’s future at Bayern has been in doubt for some time as his contract at the club expires in 2023, and there has been no progress in an extension being agreed.
A fortnight ago, Lewandowski told Bayern chiefs that he wants to leave the club this summer and he will not pen a new deal.
This was then confirmed publicly by Lewandowski, as well as by Bayern officials.
However, Bayern have also publicly stressed that they have no intention of selling Lewandowski this summer and that they want the Poland star to see out the final year of his contract.
So will Lewandowski leave the club?
What did Lewandowski say?
"It depends on several factors,” Lewandowski told ElevenSportsPL on Sunday.
“I think my situation is clear and it makes no sense to talk about it.
“It's difficult to say that I will play for Bayern next season.”
Barcelona are leading the race to sign Lewandowski, having made the Poland international their primary target for the summer transfer window.
They have been working on a three-year contract for the 33-year-old.
Lewandowski also wants to join Barcelona, keen for a final big challenge of his career at the age of 33.
There is also interest from Chelsea and PSG, both of whom are looking to sign attackers this summer.
Lewandowski enjoyed eight brilliant years at Bayern since joining from Borussia Dortmund on a Bosman in 2014, scoring 344 goals in 375 games.
As for Bayern, they are working on the signing of Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane.
